Any business that contemplates a business system change will have a vision of how the business will operate once the new system is implemented. This vision needs to be documented in terms of how that operation will take place.
An essential input to the project is the To-Be process model decomposed to sufficient level to show the 3 key elements:
- Process steps – What tasks must be done
- Actor – The business role performing the task
- Data transformation – How is value added to the business data
If there is an existing business process, then the As-Is business process is another source that is required to be documented to the same level as the To-Be process to allow a mapping of the steps and identification through gap analysis of what functions will be new.
